Flowers of the Sun

blessed with a new dawn
bundle of sunshine at the door
she moves across the lawn
and darkness now exists no more

and the seeds have been planted
the patient wait has begun
she completes the quartet
of the earth, water, and the sun

and for them she cares
each and every passing day
with her nurturing gaze
that wards off all demons away

she kisses them with her hand
and the roots will spread deeper
taller tomorrow they will stand
and the bonds will get stronger

but the wait is not lonely
flowing time is a gentle river
one day soon she will see
sunflowers smiling back at her

this monologue, an endless echo
I ask and I answer
things to do, places to go
I walk. Then I wander.

feel the need to forgive
though I don’t hear an apology.
lots to receive, so much to give…
and now I offer this eulogy.

I wish for you, with all my heart
all I ever wish for me
find the way to a new start
the light persists. choose to see

that it had to wither, for it was a flower
nothing is here forever to stay
the sun is married to the earth forever
(there will be another day)
with an open heart, greet the new day
